Property and Financial Disputes in Family Mediation

Reaching the financial settlement is often the most complicated part of a divorce, especially after a long marriage, or where significant assets need to be divided.

When you divide up jointly-owned assets, both parties automatically recover significantly less than they had before. Parties frequently expect or indeed anticipate a judge can wield a magic wand and keep them in the same financial position they were in whilst still married, but sadly it cannot be done. Homes frequently need to be sold and pension funds divided.

Successful Mediation will always involve a degree of compromise. J.Paul Getty famously remarked, My father said, " Never try to make all the money that's in a deal, let the other make some money too, because if you have a reputation for always making all the money, you wont have many deals."
